Mariska Hargitay is speaking out about domestic violence and supporting the new documentary Telling Amy’s Story, which tells the story of a woman killed by her husband after years of domestic abuse.

The 46-year-old actress also highlighted Liz Claiborne’s efforts to spread the word about domestic violence, writing, “Liz Claiborne Inc. is…in the process of releasing data from their 2010 College Dating Violence and Abuse Poll in conjunction with their groundbreaking ‘It’s Time to Talk Day’. The survey found that 41 percent of dating freshmen and seniors have experienced violence and abusive dating behaviors in their lifetime, with more than half of those surveyed saying they have difficulty identifying what constitutes dating abuse.”

“Become the person in your community — perhaps the first, hopefully the first among many — who knows the signs of domestic and intimate partner violence, who knows how to respond to a victim with compassion and wisdom, and who knows how participate in creating a society where perpetrators will not be allowed to abuse with impunity and without consequence,” Mariska wrote.

In the series, which debuts February 9, Matthew plays Ben Donovan, a self-absorbed manager of a San Diego sports arena who begins to re-evaluate his life on his 40th birthday.

Mr. Sunshine also stars Allison Janney (Ben’s boss and the arena’s owner), Better Off Ted’s Andrea Anders, James Lesure, and Matt’s Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip castmate Nate Torrence.

They made so many concessions that I was embarrassed to keep saying no."

Wendie Malick, on the cast’s combined background in comedy: “I think there's 167 years of TV comedy between us. The fact that the four of us found ourselves in this wonderful surprise hit on this low-profile channel is a great reminder that women are still interesting, and maybe more so as they get older.
