Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie expressed their deep sorrow on Tuesday night (January 12) over the widespread loss of life that occurred in the Haiti earthquake earlier in the day.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti,” the couple said in a statement to JustJared.com. “We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter.”

Wyclef released his own statement on how YOU can help: “Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.

“I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

“President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands 'ready to assist' the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.

“Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text "Yele" to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit Yele.org and click on DONATE.”

This isn’t the first time [they've broken up before]… She is heartbroken, but she is already writing great songs about it.”

Late night talk show host Conan O’Brien released the following statement about the NBC late-night line-up. Check out what he had to say:

“People of Earth: In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

“Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

“But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

“Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

“So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

“There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

“Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it’s always been that way.

“Yours, Conan.”

The 31-year-old Canadian actress wore a gorgeous one-shoulder crinkled silk chiffon gown by Alberta Feretti, shoes by Fendi and jewels by Bochic.

Rachel, who was styled by Mariel Haenn and Rob Zangardi, was sandwiched on the red carpet between British director Guy Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr. and British actor Mark Strong.

Sherlock Holmes‘ German release is January 28, 2010.

Jessica Biel and the Summit On The Summit expedition group have reached the Uhuru Peak of Mount Kilimanjaro!

The 27-year-old actress, joined by Lupe Fiasco, Isabel Lucas and Emile Hirsch, reached the summit today at 19,340 feet around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (January 12), according to People.

Jess and her fellow climbers posed with a sign reading “Send Water” - the group climbed the mountain to raise awareness of the planet’s water crisis.

“The thrill of conquering your fears, especially in such a physically and mentally taxing environment, can’t really be done justice in words,” Lupe said.
