James Franco is set to star in Rise of the Apes, a prequel to Planet of the Apes!

The 32-year-old actor will begin shooting this July in the story of what happens when genetic engineering leads to ape intelligence so great that they battle humans for superiority. James will play “a driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes,” according to Variety.

Rise of the Apes will hit theaters June 24, 2011.

Also up for James this spring is his return to General Hospital! He’ll be reprising his role as Franco, a man who turns Port Charles upside down.

Michael Vartan and his fiancee, real estate worker Lauren Skaar, share a romantic kiss while strolling through the SoHo neighborhood of New York City on Friday afternoon (May 21).

Lauren likely spent a pretty penny… she can be seen carrying around a New York City downtown shopping map!

On getting a quick crash-course in Hollywood after Slumdog Millionaire: "I grew up five years in the space of five months. I thought that I was a big comedian in school, but here I was working with adults and they took me seriously. That gave me a confidence I never knew I had."

On hoping to go beyond his Slumdog role: "I always worry, every day, whether there is going to be something else like that. When I go out on the streets, people are like, 'Hey, Jamal' [the name of Slumdog's hero], or 'Hey, Slumdog.' I get that. But one day I want to be known as Dev Patel."

U2 frontman Bono is recovering from an emergency surgery after suffering a back injury while preparing for U2’s “360 Degree” world tour.

“Bono has today undergone emergency back surgery for an injury sustained during tour preparation training,” his spokesperson told Reuters. “He was admitted to a specialist neuro surgery unit in a Munich hospital. Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate. Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates.”
